Annual Baby Parade
All children from birth through age 6 are invited to participate in the Baby Parade. The parade is held during the day on July 4th. Prizes are awarded in the following categories: Most Patriotic, Best use of Theme and Hometown Pride. We are highlighting the theme of the children's area for the theme of the baby parade and this year the park will be transformed into Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. For most patriotic, bring out the red, white and blue; celebrate our nations heroes and anything else you believe showcases patriotism. Hometown Pride celebrates all that makes Lititz special, Rosie's Lunch Wagon, Wilbur Chocolate, the history of July 4th, The Fairyland of Candles etc. Just show us why you love Lititz. Entries can be small or large, from a decorated stroller to a float! Use your imagination and come out and help us celebrate 4th of July in the Coolest Small Town in America.
When the first Baby Parade was held in 1937 as part of the Fourth of July celebration, there were three divisions: Colonial; Most Original, Artistic, & Best Dressed; Twins only. The parade began at 7 p.m. at the "coffee house" at the west end of the Park and was led by a trio of musicians, dressed as "the Spirit of '76," It followed designated paths and disbanded at the newly constructed Band Shell, where the winners were announced.
In 1986, Lititz Mayor Roy B. Clair, Jr., encouraged the revival of the Baby Parade which ended in 1959. Organized by the Lititz Woman's Club, led by a small contingent of baton twirlers from "Aquarius," 14 entrants in strollers, wagons, floats, and even shopping carts, marched along the shaded walkways to the delight of viewers. The Fourth of July Celebration Baby Parade was reborn.
